Abstract

This research sheds highlights on the importance of Ukraine's economic to Russia since it forms the main gate for exports of Russian gas to Europe and is closest to Russia among all the republics of the former Soviet Union.
Ukraine is linked with ties of religion, culture and common history to Russia in addition to the traditional complementary economic relations between the two countries and Ukraine was called a historic "bread basket" of the former Soviet Union, as well as it represents the last strategic fort which isolates Russia from the West and its allies.
Hence, the orange Revolution looks like a dangerous turning point in economic relations between Ukraine and Russia especially when it led to the overthrow of pro-Russian's president Viktor Yanukovych and the promulgation of a law for the release of the Ukrainian opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko This which marked the exit of the country from the Russian orbit to the European orbits.
This threatens the economy of Ukraine, which ranked fifth among the worst economies in the world during 2015 according to the classification of the International Monetary Fund.
